What to expect during your custom photography session
Having your picture taken doesn't have to be stressful...it can actually be really fun! I keep my sessions as lighthearted as possible. I go with the flow. The only thing you have to worry about is being yourself!
Sessions are all natural light and on location. I will either come to you or we can meet at a location of your choice. I can even suggest locations depending on what you are looking for.
Your session can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. After our shoot I will choose the best photos and carefully edit them. You will then receive access to a private online gallery of your 20-30 proofs within 7-10 days. Your online gallery will be available to you for 7 days. During the 7 days that your online gallery is available, you will be able to place your order. If your order is not completed within the 7 days, a $25/week fee will be charged to re-host your gallery. Prints are ready 15-20 days after your order is placed. Custom items may take up to 4 weeks to be delivered.
What to Wear?
If you are unsure of what to wear or how to dress your kids/baby for your session please contact me and I can give you suggestions depending on the look you are going for. I always suggest to avoid loud patterns and clothing with large logos. It's best to coordinate with each other and not completely match. I've created a Pinterest board for some inspiration.
Preparing for your newborn session
Before I arrive, make sure baby is fed. It doesn't matter to me if baby is asleep or awake. We will go with the flow.
If you'd like images of baby in just a diaper or diaper shirt then please crank your heat or turn down your ac. A warm baby is a happy baby!
If you have an outfit you'd like baby to wear, please make sure it fits them! When clothes are too big, the photos look awkward and baby looks like they are being swallowed up.
Try to have a plain diaper shirt on hand without logos. White tends to be more timeless but if you have a colour scheme in mind then go with that!
Parents dress so you feel comfortable and relaxed. You don't need to be matching but try to stay in the same tonal family. Here is a link to some outfit ideas.
Have some neutral swaddle blankets on hand too. If baby is fussy, I like to swaddle them so they feel secure and warm!
I generally shoot in the master bedroom, nursery and living room. This all depends on the lighting situation. Please try and remove any clutter, you would not like photographed. You don't need a spotless house, just a few tidy areas where we can work. I will help you move small items when I am there.
Preparing for your family session
I will work with you to select a perfect location for your session. Winter sessions will be indoors and warmer weather sessions usually take place outdoors
Select your outfits in advance. You don't want to be stressing about this the day of your session! I'm happy to look at pics of your outfits to tell you what I think. Here is some outfit inspiration for you. Don't wear matching outfits (i.e all in white tshirts). Try and coordinate and choose same tonal family.
Please make sure your children are fed before the session. Hungry kids make grumpy kids!
Bring snacks! We can stop for a snack when needed. I'm not above packing a few secret bribes too!
Bring wipes and a comb and an extra change of clothes for your littles ones if they are still in diapers (think diaper explosion)
Relax! Don't stress if the kids are getting grumpy or aren't listening. The more relaxed the parents are, the more relaxed the children will be!
Have fun! Be playful with your kids, tickle them, give lots of hugs, laugh! I love capturing these moments.
